Horse Riding Holidays For Beginners And Novice Riders - 3 day package
New for 2016 is our three day package, with basic tuition in grooming, tacking up and of course horse riding.
The only requirements are that you are under 13 stones, have a basic level of balance and fitness (eg. able to ride a bike, or ski, or dance etc.) and are confident enough to ride a big, steady horse.
This holiday is suitable for beginners/novices and rusty riders; perhaps you haven't ridden for years and would like to get to know your horse, before a steady hack. Or maybe you can ride but would like your non-horsey partner/friend to experience the sport you love, and hopefully want to take up riding, as a hobby you can both do together.
Because we only take small groups (max. 4 people), the more experienced riders will get several opportunities each day to have a steady canter.
The 3 day package can be over a weekend, or midweek. Accommodation for your two nights stay is at Mill Raise.
You will need a change of clothes for the evenings, spare riding clothes, gloves and water proofs.
Day 1 - Arrive for 1.30pm. Lesson and ride 2-4pm. B&B.
Day 2 - Preparation and Lunch Ride 10am - 2pm. B&B.
Day 3 - Preparation and Ride 10am - 12pm.
Times can be flexible by prior arrangement.
On day 1 you will need to arrive at the stables for 1.30pm, where we will introduce you to your horse and trek leader for the afternoon, probably me. You will learn the basics of how to tie up, groom and tack up your horse before the ride; then how to mount (from a fantastic mounting block), followed by brief instruction in controlling your horse and getting the feel of him before your first hack. The ride will be approximately 1 1/2 hrs in beautiful countryside, on a circular route along very quiet country lanes, bridleways and tracks across farm land. If you are feeling confident, you will be given the opportunity to try rising trot; with basic tuition throughout your ride. More experienced partners/friends will be able to hold their horse back then canter to catch up where appropriate. Then it's back to Mill Raise for coffee and cake and a chat about the afternoon ride. For your evening meals, Kendal is only 2 miles away and has a great selection of restaurants, to suit all tastes and budgets.
On day 2 you help to groom and tack up your horse and after a quick refresher, we set off on our lunch ride. Once again, this will be an instructional but relaxing hack, with plenty of time to enjoy the spectacular scenery. There will be several opportunities to practice your rising trot, for those who would like to, and to canter for able partners/friends. There are several circular routes, all with beautiful views, very little traffic and a lovely picnic spot, where the horses can graze in a nearby field, while we enjoy our picnics. There is a suitable mounting rock/ bank then it's back to the stables, via some more amazing countryside. We arrive back mid afternoon, leaving you time to explore the area, or maybe do some shopping; Lake Windermere is only 10 miles away.
On day 3 you help to get your new friend/horse ready for a final 1 1/2 - 2hr hack, and it's more lovely countryside, more opportunities to practice your new skills and hopefully show off your now perfect rising trot? Then it's time to say goodbye to the horses and head back to Mill Raise to pack.
The price is £275.00 per person inclusive. Extra nights B&B is available from £35.00 per person.
